Himachal nod to heli-taxi service
Now you can visit Himachal Pradesh’s popular resorts as well as lesser known areas by availing the new helicopter taxi service.
In an effort to attract high end tourists, the state government has signed an agreement with three private operators who would start their services from next month.
“The tourism department here on late Wednesday signed agreements with three heli-taxi providers,Simm Samm airways, Shiv Heli services and Mesco airlines,” said Arun Sharma, director state tourism department.
He said Simm Samm airways had proposed to operate between Manali and the tribal valley of Lahaul. Shiva Heli services would operate between Manali, Rohtang Pass and other places in the region. While Mesco airlines will operate between Shimla, Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lahaul, Kullu, Spiti and Kinnaur.
The base of the operators will be at Annadale helipad in the state capital Shimla. Ticketing would be done by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) from their offices and hotels located within and outside the state.
An official of the state tourism department told Business Standard that if the proposed heli taxi services are successful more routes would be thrown open for heli taxi services.
Since the state has a very limited airlines service. The state has been planning for long to utilise its 57 helipads. Many of these helipads are located in some of the remotest parts of the hill state.
