Himachal locks horns with Delhi over Renuka Dam
After meeting Union Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Saturday locked horns with the Delhi government on the multi-crore Renuka Dam project.
The Rs 3,300-crore project, mainly funded by Delhi government to procure additional drinking water supply for the national capital, has been put on hold by Ramesh’s ministry, which has objected to the diverting of 775 hectares of land for the project. During his meeting with Ramesh, Dhumal presented a new survey data to seek approvals for forest land diversion.
Meanwhile, on his return to Himachal Pradesh, the chief minister went into a combative mode, accusing the Delhi government of apathy towards the apple growers — who have been fighting against a higher commission being demanded from them at Delhi’s Azadpur market.
