Cabinet approves to amend HP Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1979
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh state cabinet today decided to approve the draft of HP Prohibition of Cow Slaughter (Amendemnt) Bill 2010, likely to be introduce in the coming monsoon session of the state assembly commencing from August 17 here. The bill would amend the State Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1979, prohibits cow slaughter and its progeny in the hill state.
The agenda of the amendment would become clear as and when the bill would be tabled in the House during in the monsoon session. The earlier law provided that the killing of a cow by accident or in self-defense would not be considered as slaughter under the Act.
Regularity Commission bill
The cabinet also approved the draft of HP Private Educational Institutions (Regulatory Commission) Bill, 2010, to constituted a regulatory commission for the functioning of all higher educational institutions in the private sector and to ensure quality education. The government took this step after having faced fierce criticism from its political opponents in the state for allowing number of private universities, which were being charged for discarding the regulations and keeping the interest of students at bay.
The state cabinet also approved HP Judicial Officers (Pay Allowances and Conditions of Service) Act, 2003 (Act No. 13 of 2003) – Amendment Bill, 2010.
