Normal water supply to Shimla restored

Shimla: Water supply to Shimla normalised today after silt deposition due to heavy rains hampered supply to various IPH schemes. According to IPH engineer-in-chief RK Sharma, water supply to the capital town has improved substantially as 38.7 MLD (Million Liter Per Day) water has been recharged in various water storages in the town as compared to normal 25 MLD supply. He said that recent flash floods had disrupted the water supply to the town as silt level had increased, which in turn forced the officials to suspend water lifting.

Being a major tourist destination, and state capital houses more than 50,000 floating population comprising tourists and visitors, beside more than two lakh permanently settled people. Shimla requires 42 million liters water in a day (MLD) during summers season whereas only 30 MLD of water is available.
