Himachal govt in service for Ramdev’s yoga camp
Solan: The Congress and BJP are yet again having a face off over Baba Ramdev’s proposed Patanjali Yogpeeth, that is to come up at Sadhupul. The immediate trigger is the three-day yoga camp to be held at the same sight from June 17 onwards along with the foundation-laying ceremony. While the BJP government appears to be leaving no stone unturned to make the event successful by providing full logistic support, the Congress has become vocal with accusations that government machinery and funds are being misused to benefit a commercial venture.
JCB machines, road rollers and labour belonging to the state public works department can clearly bee seen at the Indira Holiday Home premises and land around it allotted to the Yogpeeth. State health minister not just held a meeting of district officials assigned duties for the yoga camp, but also personally visited the site last Friday to take stock of the preparations.
Solan district Congress general secretary Shivdatt Thakur alleged that the health minister and some other local BJP leaders have been spending government money for their own personal interests. He claimed that Baba Ramdev is coming to Himachal as a businessman and therefore deserves no concessions.
He threatened that the Congress would use the RTI Act to seek information on misuse of government machinery at Sadhupul and, if need be, will also approach the court. While the Congress has demanded that all government machinery be removed from the site, local BJP leaders appear unconcerned as they can be seen making arrangements for the success of the camp.
It may be remembered that the government had transferred 97 bight land to the Patanjali rust on a 99-year lease for just Rs 17.80 lakh, and it has been alleged that the market value of the land is in crores. Interestingly, while Ramdev has even announced to enter politics and field his own candidates, the BJP seems in no mood to rethink their association with the baba.
