First phase of Pavilion ready for hosting cricketing guests

Dharamsala: Having survived a controversy, the five-star “only for players” Pavilion resort, being built by Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association at Kand village near Khaniara, is finally ready to welcome guests. The first phase of the resort was declared open on April 16. Constructed at a cost of crores of rupees, the resort is an engineering marvel and perhaps first of its kind in Himachal.

The huts offer five-star comforts like apartment space, business center, central heating, Jacuzzi, etc, just to name a few. It is for the first time that Himachal has witnessed such a construction technique whereby the whole structure has come up by just joining pre-fabricated wooden blocks. The wooden blocks for the structures have been imported from New Zealand through a company called “Lockwood”. According to company officials, the wooden blocks used are totally termite proof, fire proof the structure is even resistant to earthquake of high magnitude. When complete, the resort, spread over seven acres, will have 80 rooms, a spa, cottages and recreational facilities.

Though a part of the resort has come up in a record time of just five months, it still missed the match deadline. As a result, this IPL season proved a sorry tale for HPCA as far as accommodation scene is concerned, as they had difficulty accommodating the big-wigs of cricketing world here, resulting which Kings XI had to be put up far away at Kangra, Deccan Chargers at McLeodganj and Chennai Super Kings at Sidhpur.

While uncertainty of its use still remains, as there have been accusations that HPCA is coming up with a commercial venture in the name of cricket, even as HPCA president has maintained that it would solely be used to house players, it can at least be hoped that the place would be put to use in the best possible way.
