Himachal takes measures towards development of medicinal plants
Shimla: In a two days workshop on “Challenges & Opportunities for Growth of Medicinal Plants Sector in North-west Himalayas”, Mohinder Pal, IFS, Director, Himalayan Forest Research Institute, highlighted the importance of medicinal plants in the western-Himalayan hill states viz., Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttrakhand and said that even the governments of these states are now seriously involved to develop the medicinal plant including aromatic plant biodiversity.
Speaking over the occasion he accentuated upon the issues concerning gaps at policy level, management level, research gaps, and many things which need to be carefully identified, understood and addressed with a greater sense of responsibility.
The delegates will deliberate on four important themes (a) enabling policy framework and its effectiveness for development of Himalayan medicinal plants (b) issues concerning management of medicinal plants sector including institutional arrangement, production and marketing, (c) research issues/ gaps that need to be addressed for the development and strengthening of medicinal plants sector, and (d) success stories with private and government initiatives, suggesting points to workable options.
The workshop is being attended by prominent Scientists/ forest officers/ experts/ managers/ NGO/ Farmers/ Researchers from various universities, industries/ research institutions from the states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand and was inaugurated by Mohinder Pal.
