Himachal allows restricted killing of blue …
Shimla: Giving in to pressure from various farmer organisations, Himachal Pradesh government has allowed restricted killing of blue bulls. The relaxed norms would apply only for the forest divisions in Una, Nurpur, Bilaspur, Paonta and Nalagarh. It may be mentioned that a day earlier, farmer bodies had organised a massive rally at Beet in Una to press for the demand and the state unit of CPIM had even threatened to constitute its own shooting squad of farmers to control the menace of blue bulls (neelgai).
Divisional forest officers and range officers have been authorised to issue four-week permits for killing of blue bulls, numbering not more than two. The permit may be extended to a maximum of four more weeks. Farmers have for long been alleging that wild animals, especially blue bulls and monkeys, destroy their crops and therefore they should be allowed to kill animals straying into their fields.
