Satyawati Parmar, wife of first Himachal CM, is no more

Satyawati Parmar, wife of first chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Dr Y S Parmar, died after prolonged illness late on Tuesday night. She was 88. Satyawati was brought to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla on Monday as her condition deteriorated, said a family member.
She was cremated in Shimla in the presence of family and friends. She was the second wife of the former CM who passed away in 1980.
Satyawati was the president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) from 1964 to 1969 and member of the Rajya Sabha when Himachal Pradesh was carved out of erstwhile Punjab.
The HPCC held a special meeting to mourn her death. In a statement, the party said she played a crucial role when Himachal was a growing state.
Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal expressed grief over her death.
